Cat. #0012422: GLORIA DICKSON

Extremely rare vintage 8x10-inch black and white portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen in the 1930s. In good condition for its age. Lovely leading lady Gloria Dickson was memorable in They Won't Forget (1937), They Made Me a Criminal (1939), Waterfront (1939), and the Barbara Stanwyck horror flick Lady of Burlesque (1943). Her promising career was tragically cut short at the age of 28, when she was burned alive in a house fire, ignited by a stray cigarette. The press made much of the irony that one of her last films, Crime Doctor's Strangest Case (1943), was about a scatterbrained man who habitually set fires around the house with carelessly discarded cigarette butts.
